SMS Text Messaging - Overview

In the Text Message section of the Astro Marketing suite, you will be able to send quick SMS text messages to your customers at any time!  Here is a quick glance at creating a text messages. 




You could send text messages letting your customers know about upcoming events and offers to draw your customers back to your store!


Before sending a Text Message, please review what is not allowed to be sent via Text Messages:
Anything that is illegal in the jurisdiction where the message recipient lives. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  1. Cannabis. Messages related to cannabis are not allowed in the United States as federal laws prohibit its sale, even though some states have legalized it. Similarly, messages related to CBD are not permissible in the United States, as certain states prohibit its sale. Twilio defines a cannabis message as any message which relates to the marketing or sale of a cannabis product, regardless of whether or not those messages explicitly contain cannabis terms, images, or links to cannabis websites.
  2. Prescription Medication. Offers for prescription medication that cannot legally be sold over-the-counter are prohibited in the United States.
  3. Hate speech, harassment, exploitative, abusive, or any communications that originate from a hate group.
  4. Fraudulent messages.
  5. Malicious content, such as malware or viruses.
  6. Any content that is designed to intentionally evade filters


When creating a Text Message, you will be able to add your store's name into the SMS Form section.  The SMS Text box is where you can add your own unique message that your customers will be receiving. You will be able to select a particular customer group or you can send a message to all your customers with registered phone numbers under the Recipient List
You can create your own custom list of customers here: Lists | How to Generate Customer Lists | Marketing Suite. Based on your Recipient List option you choose, the corresponding customers available will appear in the box on the right of the page.

After your message has been sent, you will be taken back to the main SMS Dashboard page. Here you will see all of the texts that you have created and see the status of each one.  

Quick break down on what each of the columns mean:

Text Messages- Shows each text message that you have created. Newest to Oldest. 
Status- It will say "Queued" or "Sent." If the status says "Queued" it is currently processing to be sent. 
Created- The dated the text was created.
Sent- The dated the text has been sent.
Total Recipients- Total selected customers the text is being sent to.
Sent To- Customers that the text was received by. 
Actions- You can archive any text messages that you created. 




If you didn’t activate SMS on the free trial activation page, you can still get a SMS number. Click on the Text Messaging section on the Marketing Suite.


SMS Text Message Pricing


Your SMS Text Number and the ability to draft SMS Text Campaigns is included in your Marketing Suite Membership. It's sending those Texts that will cost a little extra. There is no way around this since Text messages have to be sent via mobile phone carriers and they charge their fees up front. 

Each Text Message segment sent or received will cost $0.035.

Note about SMS pricing:  One segment equals each sent text message and received text message.  For example, if a retailer sends a text message to a customer, that equals one segment. If the customer responds to the text message including opt-outs, that also equals a segment. Astro sends an automated message to replies that this number does not monitor replies please contact your retailer directly. If a customer ignores those automated messages and continues to reply to the text it will halt their ability to reply after 4 texts. 

We have a simple way to help you manage the replenishment of your Text Credits once the stores become low.

Under your Marketing Suite Settings there is a section for SMS Text Configuration. Here you can choose how many Text Credits you want to purchase once your Text Credit Total dips below a certain amount. This way you can be sure that you never run out of Text Credits. You can also purchase Text Credits before or while sending a SMS Text Campaign as well.
